Pixel Art
Artwork created on a pixel by pixel basis, often associated with older home computer games. Usually flat color areas surrounded by a strong single pixel outline. There are many great examples on the internet.
Here are a couple of examples (drawn in Adobe Photoshop).

The cubes display all the web safe colors available in 4 shades. Note the black outline and the single white dot.
I try and draw all tiles as pixel art as it reduces their file size and makes them look stronger and more computer game like. I use this 256 color palette.

Here are pixel circles from 5 to 25 pixel diameter.The best method to create circles is to use 'Stroke Inside' a Photoshop circular selection. You can see some circles are smoother than others. Avoid 8, 9 12 and 16 pixel diameters.
